So much for that
Well, now there's another hurricane headed into the Gulf and we're staying put. I can't handle being around my mother this much for too much longer or I'm going to snap. I may have to find my own place to live while we're here. | | Friday, September 16th, 2005 | | 9:34 pm |
Homeward bound
Well, Alexandria has been exciting, but it looks like we're headed home on Monday. I can't tell you how glad that makes me right now. Even with no stores and the dusk curfew, I'd rather be home with my stuff than here any longer. For anyone who was wondering, Alexandria is without a doubt one of the most boring towns on the face of the earth. Everyone has been wonderful and nice, but my God, I need a city again. Even a city that's being washed into the ocean is more interesting. So, we'll have to see what happens. I'll still need a job eventually. I still want to move to Houston. We'll have to see what the next few months brings. | | Wednesday, September 7th, 2005 | | 10:27 am |
Moved to Alexandria for the time being
Well, we've settled into Alexandria for the time being. I'm in a really big trailer we're renting with some close family members. We've got an assload of food stamps between us, so we're gorging ourselves for the moment. A few of my cousins and I are trying to talk ourselves into moving to Houston. I've been wanting to move there for awhile. I'm sure I could find some kind of job out there. I've been sending out applications online, but it's kind of hard because the cellphones are still acting up and I'm hard to get in touch with. We're working on getting a landline, but we can't seem to get a phone from Wal-Mart that works. Our lot in life. Well for the moment we're here in Alexandria. Everyone keeps telling us that the Westbank didn't have much damage, but there are people on every corner with guns and civilians have been told to shoot looters and pull their bodies off to the side. I have no intention of going back there right now. Houston is looking better and better every day. | | Thursday, September 1st, 2005 | | 6:33 pm |
Well, I'm finally here on Live Journal
Well, this seems to be the easiest way to communicate with Borders people. I'm alive and in Marksville, La. I'm here in a house with 28 distant loose relatives. They're all from Lafitte, so I'm eating well. We're probably the best-fed refugees out there. My parents and I are trying to decide what to do from here. The Westbank is crazy, and rumors are abounding. So, if our house wasn't flooded, it was looted and burned down. Who really knows? We're all hearing different stuff by the hour. Now, Aarom Brussard says we can't go back on Monday to even look at our stuff and the insurance company won't pay til we look at it. What a load of crap. I'm glad to hear about all the people who made it out. In trickles, I'm hearing stuff from most of my friends and co-workers and one thing that seems to be constant is that no one is going back. Actually, the funny thing is they showed Veterans and Causeway on the news last night and it seemed to be high and dry. We're all forced out of town and our work manages to survive. Crazy. I'm going to be around here for awhile. This seems to be a good constant way to keep in touch with people and hear from them. So, all of you, please keep posting. Good luck and much love to you all. |
